The Age of Upgrade

BIG BATCH OF HAND PAINTED WAX FOR SAN FRANCISCO I wanted to do a  blog about the upgrade I'm doing and why. Because I am an artist and not a business person I have been lax on so many things I shouldn't have been and caused myself a lot of headaches. This was a year of growing pains for my business and days before my birthday I decided my new age of 39 would be one of grand changes. For starters...I'm typing this on an old Android phone. It's the only equipment I have. My old Mac finally gave up the ghost and I can no longer do any graphic designing in Photoshop or even save files. This will need to be upgraded, I need a computer. Let's talk about vinyl though...I started doing the vinyl about 6 years ago and they were pretty basic novice attempts at painting on vinyl. After many experiments, failures and tons of practice... I have brought them into their own. They started as $30 discs and climbed as I got better. I marked everything DOWN to $50 this year

In My Blood

Pretty excited about my upcoming trip to San Francisco and it will be even sweeter because another show has been added into the mix. I'll be in a vinyl art show at a place called Pig and Pie. They are doing a benefit show to raise $ to keep and repair their historic Discolandia sign. Discolandia was the place to buy Latin music in SF for over 35 years so my vinyl record art will spotlight some of my favorite Latin artists too. It's in my blood, I love the music so much. Really happy these will be auctioned off in a silent auction to raise funds to help them. I will actually miss the show by a day but am thrilled to have my vinyl in San Francisco, a place I love. The Celia Cruz Foundation loved this and shared it with their 15k + fans on Instagram this week! I'm super swamped getting everything ready for the record show, the show at the Bedford and my two person show...it's a juggling act right now but I'm used to this game. Really feeling the Cali love

Giant vs the Tiny Tiny

"Reclamation" 24" x 30" mixed media on canvas A blog? What? Let me explain to you my absence....it has to do with my tablet crapping out on me and me not wanting to peck this all out with my giant fingers  on my cell phone (which I'm doing right now) and battling Autocorrect every other minute.....but I wanted to share my news with you invisible readers over here!  My piece was accepted into a show in California (pretty close to San Francisco!) and I decided it would be a great opportunity to go up there and do a scouting/ networking mission while I'm there for the opening. I'm pretty excited to be chosen to be in this gallery and really psyched about who the jurors were. Hopefully I get to meet them. San Francisco is where my sister lives so I'll be going to visit her...I can't wait! Already making a mental checklist of the galleries I want to scope out and of course visit the SFMOMA. I lived here very very briefly once upon a tim

Rebound

A shot of a work in progress I'm back in my element with my brain focused and my heart fully involved with my work . The new stuff will be more intricate and detailed than my previous  stuff. I'm really enjoying thinking of new color palettes and trying to switch things up a bit. Carving out depths and even more layers. Someone just asked me what artist I was looking at for inspiration. I kind of look at a lot and also won't look at anyone for long stretches. I don't want to fall in love with a style and have something too derivative creep into my canvas.  I'm sure it happens subconsciously as it is. But I do cite Murakami and Matthew Ritchie big time  for their color and focus on movement and details. Nature and nature documentaries for subject and ideas. Graffiti for its color, intricate entangled design and boldness. I look at a lot really. Hoping to finish this one today and it will be the first of 2015. Got some stuff coming down the pipes to

2015

MC5 painted vinyl record Let's see if I still know how to write a blog.... It's 2015 now. It's strange to think how little I write here now as opposed to former years. I think I'm finally in the full swing of freelancing and new work and time for blogging just fell by the way side. That and I felt like keeping my thoughts to myself. You no doubt (all 2 of you reading) follow me on Facebook or instagram so there's no point in photo recapping anything, right? I'm starting the year, again, by doing a real hard look at my health. I think I'm pinpointing some problems and hopefully taking the right steps to cure myself. My diet is getting all shook up but that's a good thing ultimately. I'm slowly weaning myself off coffee again which truly is one of the hardest things to kick. I may be a little grumpy and sick feeling so I'm actively deciding to post less on Facebook for a bit so I don't have regrets of saying foul things followed by a
