One thing Im doing for myself and my business is STREAMLINING so that my time is not wasted. For example- setting boundaries and pricing for things that usually are a waste of time.
One thing that's been problematic is ON SITE MEETINGS. Can I come to x location to look at a wall for a possible mural that prospective client probably doesn't have the kind of budget I require OR they are just fishing the waters and plan to have a few artists out to do this to see who is the cheapest.
Time and again nothing comes of this, I've burned gas traveling there and time I could have been in the studio working.
How do you prevent this from happening?
I set up a pricing chart with different tiers reflective of different types of murals...low detail easy murals to mid detail to high to exterior etc. I also have a MINIMUM. Like its really not worth all the work a mural entails to make any less than $300 on a job. That's ludicrous and probably what you'd pay someone in high school who's muralling for the first time. There's design fees, travel fees, supplies and sometimes research that goes into a wall design. Murals are a HARD ART and very physical work.
So to streamline the process I've included my pricing on my website and should anyone inquire about murals- they are getting a link to the page.
If they wanted something below $300 they will know not to waste their time and mine. Streamline. Im hoping this will make it easier for both parties this year.
Believe me I have driven to VERY FAR locations and sometimes multiple times to meet up with prospective clients who just wanted to fish. Aaaand I'm pretty much done with that. Also spec designs to get the job before any money changes hands...that's the artist working for free....aaaand that's not fair. Design fees up front...been burned on this one as well just to see the job handed off to another artist after I spent time researching and creating a logo and design.
2020 is the year of stopping all the practices that harm me and creating ones that help me flourish.
Are you helping yourself or hurting yourself?
To see the new pricing tiers you can visit my WEBSITE and while Im all for working within a budget you must have SOME sort of budget to begin with.
Be kind to artists-they work hard for the money, honey.
