less and less

Truth Haven't updated this blog since July. I used to be pretty active with it but truth be known I take things to heart too hard sometimes. So when friends say I post too much or show too many photos of work... I take that as them needing less of my life in their news feeds. Easy enough. I give too much of myself I guess. But to give you an update since last we talked art... Painted my first bike, A Pure Fix cycle for the Collect Respect show at WAAS Gallery The Tiger Bee-Cycle at WAAS On view at WAAS Gallery I'm back to freelancing at the design/sculpture studio I did an interview with  Fashion Art Network Gallery I'm in a great show at Luminarte Gallery Fashion Art Network Gallery show Newest work in progress That's what I've been up to, art and work. Busy! But no matter how busy... Till next time...be kind

After the Storm

The Grand Decision, acrylic/spray paint on canvas 36" x 48" (Sold) It's been awhile since I've updated here, mainly because I've been busy and partly because my head hasn't quite landed from all the craziness it takes to put on a show. Now that it is up I'm a bit out of sorts, I got used to the high pressure cooker and now I've been taken out of it and it's.... Strange. Work doesn't stop though and its back to catching up with people's requests and making sure I have stuff for upcoming exhibitions. (Yes, more exhibitions!) I wanted to impart my advice to any young artists who want to exhibit a body of work somewhere... And you should! My advice is to MAKE the work THEN book the show because as much time as you think you have for it... you don't. And somewhere in there a kind of desperate mania can set in. It will thwart your ideas, whisper you're not good enough and make you question why you are doing this to yourself.

Thanks Dad

Happy Father's Day Some people need a holiday to stop and remember to appreciate a person...I am not one of those people. And theres something beautiful and strange about a gift that Death gives you.... Full appreciation of that person forever, every day you are left behind on the planet without them. If you are smart you will heed the words of those who know... Appreciate them while they are here. Although I did appreciate my dad a there is still that desire to have done even more, to not have wasted my time, to have given even more of myself to the family instead of being so wrapped up in my own petty little day to day trials. My Dad was my protector, my wise man, my loyal rock in the world. He taught me to be my best, do it right the first time so you don't have to redo it, be self sufficient and be brave. He taught me to love music, love art, love life. He wanted the best for me and supported my decision to be an artist even though he warned me being a dentist

Back in Black

A mural work in progress Had to halt work in my studio for a hot minute to do some real world pay-the-rent kind of work. But as far as that kind of work goes it's a dream, pays very well, allowed me to design it and will be part of a live painting event for a lucrative set of people. If anything it will be fun and I'll have added another mural to my repertoire and hopefully make some connections, which usually happens. I was lucky to befriend an awesome artist who has the rare trait of trying to share the good fortune and work instead of secretly hoarding and being stingy like..., way too many Artists. I'm blessed to know the dude but I'll give him shout outs after the event since it's kinda mysterious right now about who the event is for. The mural will be finished at said event LIVE, so the guests can enjoy seeing the completion. But today it's back in the studio for me so I can work on my own show for the Kirk Hopper gallery. The tally is now: 3 co

Choppy Waters!

Yesterday's spray day Just a little update on where I'm at, not that anyone reads this... It's more for me to update myself and light a fire under my butt to hustle harder, I guess. So now I have 3 large canvases done for the show, 2 smaller pieces and finished 2 collaborative works. Yesterday I started the backgrounds for three smaller  works and will have 2 larger canvases to complete my goal. So 5 down, 5 to go and 2 more colab pieces waiting for my brushes. Ive complicated my work a bit to make things ever challenging, a  few new steps in my background process. This pieces have more depth and dimenson now Adding a new layer between sprays So I'm plenty busy with work but am starting to run out of cash... Not starting to really, but almost tapped out. I actually have about $200 to my name in this world and it's time to pay rent and that's not even enough to cover that. Usually I can hustle and sweat over some record commissions but I

Prepare Thyself!

So in case you missed the newsflash... All this work I'm doing is for a show at the Kirk Hopper Fine Art gallery. When I told a friend of mine this he said "Movin' on up Weezy!" Which is hilarious but true. Moving on up indeed! This is a joint show with graffiti artist SONER, you may have caught his work at Dallas Contemporary last year or you may have caught it on the streets somewhere, even if you don't live in Dallas.  Part of SONERs wall at Dallas Contemporary He uses wild bright colors and has a distinctive style in his field..... Kinda like...ME! Luckily I'm well versed in painting on top of spray paint because the collaboration pieces we're doing are quite an undertaking.  This show is going to be a color blast to the senses, as soon as the press release goes out officially I'll tell you more about the show but for now it's enough to say prepare thyself! I'm working hard to produce at my next level and create enoug

Put your foot on that GAS PEDAL

Mice are nice! Getting into the middle of May and hoping time starts going slow from here on out. I have a mountain of work to do and the show just keeps inching closer. I took a break of sorts over the weekend. I just finished two big paintings back to back and needed some brain space before I leapt on another 4ft x 5 ft collaboration piece with SONER. So far I've got 3 new personal works done and 1 colab. Time is ticking but I'm liking the way the show is looking so far. Fantastical! Just wrapped up the Tunnelvisions event and auction, my giant Panda went for.... ....$160! Someone got an amazing deal, I hope they realize that. And with that Im formally ending all other events for the summer and focusing solely on this show for Kirk Hopper Gallery and nothing else so thanks but no thanks to any other showing, event, charity donation thingamajig, etc etc. If you don't focus you get nowhere. Today I tackle another collaboration piece, it's intere

Steady on course Captain!

Clustre, acrylic, latex, spray paint on canvas 24" x 48" The bats out of the bag. I had to turn in images that would be in the show to the press and so much for the secret keeping! This was a major pain in the butt of a painting, clocking in over a week of full days working on it. If there was a way I could simplify the process and still achieve the zany results I'd do it! Right Panel I attempted to work on the two simultaneously, and did at first... Then my OCD kicked in and I wanted to see some results happen so finished this one then hopped over to the next one. I had to put a 2 x4 on the easel to serve as a long base to place them on side by side. They work together and they work alone but they look more  eye catching as a diptych. Left Panel These are just craptastic photos from my digi cam. You can't see the nice two tone shadow work too well in the photos. Im working on breaking out of my usual compositions, formulas and ideas... ev

We Must Sail

Self Portrait, split in half Sometimes being an Artist feels a lot like what I imagine a sailor feels like when he has to go out to Sea for an extended period of time. You get taken away from "normal life" and endeavors and are at the sole mercy of the Sea... Or in this case, your Art. You just happen to love and live it so there are no regrets. You hope everyone understands your absence and will appreciate the discoveries you bring back with you from your trip. This is where I'm at, floating out father away from shore and friends. About to tackle one of four big paintings for my main wall for the upcoming exhibition. Back of my last finished painting, the sun streaming in created a great silhouette. I've been looking at my canvas in different ways and really loved the effect of the silhouette as a whole construct. I'm planning on duplicating these forms and using them again. My feature in Latino Leaders Magazine Yesterday I opened the doo
