Catching up with the living

New week and I'm not feeling like dying right now so I'm going to make the most of it by hitting the studio hard and getting some stuff taken care of. I have some odds n end things that need to get shipped out and some commissions that I'm sorry to say are LATE because I got superzombiedeath ill. Whatever illness this is really kills my momentum and my wallet. Because I'm certain this is endo/hormone related and affects my digestive system ...it makes sense my diet is going to be what heals me. I've spent a lot of time and even bought a recipe book so I can start my endo friendly diet. I'm good at adapting to things. About 5 or 6 years ago I stopped drinking milk and switched to soy before reading it was bad and switched to almond milk- where I am perfectly fine. No big deal. After my first ER visit and diagnosis with gastritis I was able to kick coffee...not as easy (the withdrawal symptoms were bad!) but I did it. Sugar, however, is my achilles heel. So the first thing I wanted to do was see if I could make an endo friendly dessert that didn't taste horrible- if that was possible then I was good to go. I could do this. I DID IT! I made a carob cake with all vegan ingredients and no added sugar. A little treat I could actually have once in awhile.
I'll have to divide a little more of my time in the kitchen than in the studio but it is necessary to keep me functioning, I'll get the hang of this.
As for art...finishing up my piece for Kettle Art Gallery today. It's for the exhibition THAT 60'S SHOW and you can check the event invite here, the opening is this Thursday! I'll post photos after the opening.
The next thing on the radar is my opening at GRAVELMOUTH GALLERY, I'm excited to show in a new city and a fantastic venue. If you're in San Antonio come check it out!
Also, I'm pleased to say that my piece that was on view at Texas Discovery Gardens SOLD
"Fin and Feather"
Waving bye bye to State Fair of Texas, I missed the Chinese Lantern Exhibit this year because I got ill but I'll catch it next year for sure. Last but not least, I'm still in the competition to get to SCOPE MIAMI. This is going on until Nov 8-which is coming up. You can vote once a day to help get me there!
I think I've effectively caught you up on the goings on in my life right now...all 3 of you who read this! Ha ha!
Enjoy your good health and make the most of your day!

I'll leave you with my endo friendly breakfast shake recipe:
8 oz coconut or almond milk (I like PLAIN unsweetened)
1 TBSP CAROB POWDER (naturally sweet)
1 Banana
dash of cinnamon, vanilla extract
3 TBS GREEK YOGURT (the only dairy Im consuming on this diet and sparingly)
Blend in blender, drink! It has your first dose of fruit, potassium and calcium for the day and it's probiotic!

Words!

Hello! I haven't blogged since last year. Even writing the word "blog" felt foreign and weird! I have actually been writing stuff on my Patreon account so if you've missed the updates you can sign up for free over there. There is also an option to pay a few dollars a month to help support me as an artist and get "extra" content- in case you are of that mindset and either way- thank you for caring about the art adventures.  I have missed blogging actually. I guess I like to make words, string them together like a pretty necklace and let them live their own expressive life wrapped around me.  Times are different. Times are weird! But I guess you know that. And also times are the same and as old as time. Is it really more terrible than any other time or are we humans just more "connected" to the propaganda and daily bad trip in a way that is insane and unhealthy? Either way I do my best to keep my sanity and I don't believe about 98% of what I s...

Taming the monster

What started as me deciding to spend 30 minutes picking out clothes to donate from my closet .. Turned into about 2 hours of folding t shirts, jeans and deciding winter was far enough away that all sweaters and coats could be packed away. My closet was a walk-in diaster. My cat had lived in it all winter, knocked stuff down, slept on it, fuzzed up clothes and built forts. No lie.  I had been living in the same two pairs of jeans and 5 shirts off my bedroom floor (closet #2 😂). First things first, all the T shirts from OLD JOBS were the first to get put in donation pile. I don't need memories of "that place" and they were all too small, waaay too large or tan/beige/grey ..all the wrong unhappy colors that just say JOB when you look at them. Bye! So that happened yesterday. Major project that still needs work but for now it is peaceful enough to my brain to leave it alone. I have two large loads of laundry to do because my clothes look like...well like a cat has been sleep...

The Age of Upgrade

BIG BATCH OF HAND PAINTED WAX FOR SAN FRANCISCO I wanted to do a  blog about the upgrade I'm doing and why. Because I am an artist and not a business person I have been lax on so many things I shouldn't have been and caused myself a lot of headaches. This was a year of growing pains for my business and days before my birthday I decided my new age of 39 would be one of grand changes. For starters...I'm typing this on an old Android phone. It's the only equipment I have. My old Mac finally gave up the ghost and I can no longer do any graphic designing in Photoshop or even save files. This will need to be upgraded, I need a computer. Let's talk about vinyl though...I started doing the vinyl about 6 years ago and they were pretty basic novice attempts at painting on vinyl. After many experiments, failures and tons of practice... I have brought them into their own. They started as $30 discs and climbed as I got better. I marked everything DOWN to $50 this year...
