A very strange thing happened yesterday...
I did not paint.
I guess all the rush and the push finally caught up with me and I fell into a catatonic state of the I Dont Wanna's. I have been painting every day consistently on something for someone or some show for I don't know how many days. So while I fully intended to start a new piece yesterday I didn't. I couldn't. I needed a day away from it I guess. And there you have it. My dirty secret. Once in a blue moon I just don't wanna.
Today however I gotta.
Freelancing doesn't afford a whole lot of those days so today it's back to the grind! Got a new commission that came in last night, new small works to replace small works that just sold and the steady work of building the body of work up. Today is also art drop off day for the CrissCrossing Corridors show. Busy Busy....another cup of coffee please.
I guess I should address this before the busy season hits which it is starting to. The proper way to commission me to start a piece of art for you...
1. Make contact! Send me a message telling me what you want. If you want a portrait of your cat on a 12" x 12" say that. Send me a photo of the cat. If you want a portrait of Daffy Duck on a record. Say that. Its very simple.
2. I will then give you an estimate based on how much time I think it will take. I can't give you an estimate if I don't know what I'm painting for you. Portraits of people take longer than portraits of cats. Canvases take longer than records, generally. The bigger the canvas the more that canvas costs.
3. If theres not a message in my inbox with a photo of what we're doing chances are I have not started anything for you. I can't work with invisible resources. :)
4. Speaking of invisible resources....if you have not sent me a Paypal/check/money order/cash OR we havent discussed payment methods....nothing has been started for you.
5. If I haven't worked with you before then paying me up front or 1/2 up front is preferable.
6. There is no "what if I don't like it?" I will work with you until you do like it and you will pay for it like we agreed. I have yet to have someone tell me they didn't like it and I have had only one person in the history of my business who just disappeared without paying. I have faith that humans are good humans. Don't wreck that faith after I've worked hard for you.
All that being said I AM HAPPY TO PAINT FOR YOU! I love this job I've chosen for myself. Paying me up front gets your job started first and moved past everyone else in line who hasn't paid yet. I have a long list of happy customers and know you will also be happy with your piece of art as well.
